In summer, hot weather that easily makes us bad tempered, the stress from work and studies, together with our hectic urban lifestyle and irregular living patterns, weaken our immune systems and may lead to various kinds of oral problems such as gingivitis, oral ulcers and decaying teeth. So we need to foster good oral care habits and constantly maintain oral hygiene. With this in mind, Oral-B and Crest have jointly created this summer oral care feature to ensure that everybody has healthy white teeth and fresh breath throughout the hot summer.
1. Brush your teeth in the morning, evening and after eating
Learn the correct brushing method:
Slant your tooth brush 45 degrees, and press it between the tooth surface and the gum, with the bristles penetrating as much as possible into gum grooves and gaps between the teeth. Gently brush up and down in the gaps, while turning the brush head. Brush each tooth one after another without missing any. Each session should last for three minutes, and should cover the inside, outside and the chewing surfaces of teeth.
Use dental floss:
Dental floss can clean areas between teeth which are not easily accessible by a tooth brush, eliminating the bacteria hidden in the gaps. Carefully pull the floss to and fro in the gaps between teeth to avoid hurting the gums. Then press the floss on to the tooth surfaces and brush up and down for thorough cleaning.
Using oral rinse solution after meals:
It is especially important to rinse your mouth after meals during summer, as this helps to remove food leftovers in your mouth to prevent multiplication of pathogen-microorganisms. According to statistics, those who regularly rinse their mouths have far less chance of suffering from periodontitis, decaying teeth, upper respiratory tract infections, pneumonia and bronchitis than those who don’t regularly rinse.
2. Prolonged use of fluoridated toothpaste
The fluoride contained in fluoridated toothpaste merges with the enamel and can in turn strengthen the teeth to prevent tooth decay.
3. Choice of health-care tooth brushes
A health-care tooth brush can effectively promote oral cleanliness without damaging the teeth or gums. A health-care tooth brush features soft and flexible bristles with rounded tips and a small, flat brush face.
eplace your tooth brush every three months:
After three months or more a tooth brush’s bristles will have been sharpened which in turn may damage the teeth and gums. Studies have shown that a new tooth brush can clear 30% more dental plaque than a three-month-old brush.
4. Good diet
We should eat less spicy food and coarse. hard or fried food in order to avoid over stimulating the gums. Smoked or roasted food will stimulate periodontal mucosa directly and damage the skin cells, causing hyperemia and cellular swelling, and therefore should be avoided. We should eat more fresh vegetables and fruit and other food that soothes the stomach or reduces body heat, and drink more green tea, chrysanthemum tea and green mung bean soup that detoxify the body. We should also maintain a balanced diet as our overall health closely interacts with our oral health. We should reduce the frequency of eating sugary food to prevent bacteria from producing acids using the sugar left in the mouth, eroding our teeth and causing bad breath and teeth. After taking carbonated drinks or fruit juice we should immediately rinse our mouths with clean water to avoid damage to teeth caused by the acids they contain.
5. Regular oral check-up
Go to a hospital to receive an oral check-up or have professional dental cleaning or treatment regularly. Dentists will offer you health-care instructions, helping you to ensure the health and beauty of your teeth and gums.
