P&G Asia was recently recognized for excellence in our Community Programs, and presented with the Silver Award at the Global CSR Summit Awards 2009 held on 14th January in Singapore. This is the first time that P&G have won a Pan Asian award recognizing a combination of the projects in the region all supporting the company’s global cause of Live, Learn and Thrive: Project Hope in China, Shiksha in India, Gawad Kalinga in Phillipines, Open Minds in Malaysia, Beyond Borders in Singapore and the Disaster Relief efforts across the region as part of the Childrens’ Safe Drinking Water program.

The CSR Summit Awards recognizes and honors companies for outstanding, innovative and world-class programs implemented in 2007/08 which demonstrate the company’s leadership and on-going commitment in the field of CSR. The Community Program Excellence Award recognized the best community project resulting in better education, poverty alienation and community engagement. P&G Asia, alongside The Body Shop and Globe Telecom from the Philippines, were the top companies recognized in this year’s award.

The judging panel consisted of Mr Howard Shaw, Executive Director Singapore Environmental Council, Mr Tan Kin Lian, CEO of NTUC Income, Mr Tan Chong Huat, Managing partner of law firm Khattar Wong, Ms K. Bhavani, President of the Institute of Public Relations of Singapore, and Dr. Geoffrey Williams and Paul Zaman, leading CSR consultants.

Through the combination of the Live, Learn & Thrive programs in Asia, P&G has helped to improve the lives of more than 18 million children in the Asia region via education, cleaner sanitation facilities and better living standards.
